I’m supporting Barbara Allen and Ernie (Ernst) Merckens for the two open seats on the Belgrade selectboard. I have known both Barbara and Ernie for many years and believe each will be a valuable member of the selectboard if elected.

Allen has lived in Belgrade for decades and been involved in many aspects of community life. She has served as a town library trustee and as chair of the board. As a member of the Friends of Belgrade Lakes committee, she was actively involved in fundraising to help pay for new sidewalks, street lights and other amenities associated with the recent road reconstruction project.

She served as president of the McGrath Pond-Salmon Lake Association and understands the importance of good lake water quality to the town’s tax base. She was co-chair of the Arts Enrichment Program at Belgrade Central School. Barbara has teaching experience, management and fundraising expertise, and knows how to work collaboratively with multiple organizations, towns and individuals to solve problems. She is bright, articulate, and not afraid to ask questions, and will work hard to find answers.

Merckens is also a longtime resident of Belgrade who has a long history of community involvement. Among his contributions to the town, Ernie has served on numerous town boards and committees, including the budget committee, library board of trustees, appeals board and selectboard.

As an active member of Union Church, he gives generously of his time and talents to help others. He was involved with scout troops in Belgrade for a number of years. Ernie has expertise in transportation, construction, and property management. He makes an effort to listen courteously to all sides and ask questions before making decisions.

Please join me in voting for Barbara Allen and Ernie Merckens for the Belgrade selectboard.
