AUGUSTA — A community health fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chateau Cushnoc and John Marvin Tower, 36 and 38 Townsend St.

Maxim Health Care will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations for those with Medicare cards and some private insurances.

There will be free massages, a Senior Farm Share representative, blood pressure readings, stroke screenings, and more. The documentary “Forks over Knives” will be shown.

Sandwiches and soup with soda and chips and dessert will be for sale.

UMA Holocaust center to hold public event

AUGUSTA — The Holocaust & Human Rights Center of Maine will showcase upcoming programs during a community event set for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the center, 46 University Drive on the University of Maine at Augusta campus.

On the schedule:

* Welcome and presentation by Executive Director Robert Bernheim at 1:30 p.m.

* Edith Pagelson, Holocaust survivor and author of “Against All Odds,” will give a reading and sign copies of her book at 2:15 p.m.

* Showing of “Were the House Still Standing: Maine Survivors & Liberators Remember the Holocaust,” with introduction and post film discussion led by board member and UMA professor Bob Katz, at 3 p.m.

The event will also feature music by jazz guitar duo Peter Herman and Rurik Samuel Brackett and the center’s new exhibit, “Maine Boys Overseas, German Boys in Maine.”

For every new member who joins, donors will contribute $25 to the center, a portion of which will benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Refreshments will be served.

Winthrop nomination petitions due today

WINTHROP — Nomination petitions are due today for town elected posts.

Three seats are open on Town Council, three on the school board and several on the library board of trustees.

The petitions must be returned to the Town Office by 5 p.m. today.

Waterfont festival set for Saturday

AUGUSTA — Live music and other events are planned at waterfront park downtown Saturday at Rockin’ the Riverside.

Many of the events were originally planned as part of AugustaFest, including live music, were canceled because of weather that weekend.

The event, organized by the Augusta Downtown Alliance, starts at 9 a.m. with a petanque tournament at Mill Park, on Water Street at the north end of downtown where the Edwards mill used to be.

Events at Waterfront Park on Front Street, between Water Street and the river at the south end of the downtown, will include an antique auto show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., kids “explore a truck” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., crafts, food sales and a bounce house.

Live music starts at 11 a.m. with the Tragic Cats, then Chris Poulson and Peter Johnson at 1 p.m., Trisha Mason Band at 3 p.m., The Band Apollo at 5 p.m., and Acoustic Chi at 7 p.m.

A beer garden will be open on the waterfront from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
