AUGUSTA — Madison upset top seeded Post 51, 6-2, while No. 2 Gardiner stopped third-seeded South China Subway, 12-9, in the opening round of the Zone 2 American Legion baseball tournament Saturday.

Cody Moody pitched a complete game for Madison, shutting out Post 51 over the last seven innings. Moody allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out six. Garrett Emery led Madison with three hits, including a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Gardiner banged out 19 hits, including four by Spencer Allen who homered and drove in four runs. Ben Crocker added three hits for Gardiner while Ian Lane and Mike Phelps each had a pair of doubles. Ryan Pulver and Keith Cloutier each had a pair of hits for South China Subway while Jory Humphrey belted a three-run triple.

Josh Martin pitched a complete game to earn the win for Gardiner.

The tournament double elimination tournament continues today with Gardiner playing Madison and South China taking on Post 51. Both games are at the Piggery Road complex at 11 a.m.
