Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area plans to host a yoga session at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the garden at 304 Main St., Waterville.
Certified Yoga Teache Arleen King-Lovelace will lead a session of chair yoga, for all levels, geared towards those grieving a significant loss of a loved one.
When people grieve, their bodies produce extra amounts of stress hormones that can stun their muscles and joints. This can cause aches that may be constant or come and go, lasting from weeks to months, according to a news release from Jillian Roy, program coordinator.
Grief yoga uses movement, breath, and sound to help process the grief. This type of yoga is less about flexibility or balance but more about building awareness. It may help people find release in the areas of their bodies where they may be holding the pain from their loss or trauma.
Chairs will be provided. People should bring a beach towel or yoga mat if they would like to sit on the ground.
To sign up, contact Roy at 207-873-3615, ext. 11, or jroy@hvwa.org.
