WATERVILLE — Ticonic Gallery + Studio, 93 Main St., plans to host a free family-friendly 3D Printing Open House to learn more about the technology from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23.
3D printing has applications in education, art, design, prototyping and home repair. People can watch 3D printers in action, see 3D printed objects as they take shape (and take home a sample), learn about the software used to create 3D objects, and explore many creative possibilities, according to a news release from the gallery.
There will be refreshments and a chance enter to win a 3D Printing for Beginners class (a $110 value).
Schedule
• 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Printing Demonstration: See the printer, software, and how it prints. There will be an art-making activity for all ages using 3D Printing rubbing plates.
• 11:30 a.m.: Design Demonstration: Learn about 3D software such as Thingiverse and Tinkercad.
• Noon: 3D Printing + the Arts: See how 3D printing is used in clay, printmaking, and to support films and theater.
• 12:30 p.m.: Student 3D printing: Hear from students who have taken 3D Printing for Beginners.
• 12:45 p.m.: Prize Drawing: Sign up at watervillecreates.org for a chance to win a free 3D Printing for Beginners class starting Sept. 14.
