WATERVILLE — Candace Marriner is all set to take over as the newly appointed executive director for the nonprofit Maine Children’s Home.

Richard Dorian resigned from the role last week to serve as a full-time church pastor, a move he had announced back in April after serving as executive director since 2016.

The organization based at 93 Silver St. works to build and strengthen families and children by offering five core programs: counseling, adoption, young-parent support, caregiver resources and winter assistance for families.

Marriner’s 10 years of experience working with foster care and adoption work aligns closely with the group’s mission to contribute to society, according to a news release from the nonprofit.

A native of Maine, she holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maine and received a master’s in business administration from Husson University in 2021. A licensed clinical social worker, Marriner previously served as the clinical director at Sheepscot Regional Education Program.

“I am looking forward to working with the amazing staff, board of directors, partners, and community members who share the passion of helping others through the invaluable work of this organization,” says Marriner, who will be starting her role on Monday.

As executive director, Marriner will work closely with program directors to carry out the strategic objectives that support the mission and vision of the nonprofit organization, according to the release. Marriner will also be the face of the organization and will be responsible for building relationships, partnerships and collaborations that support the community’s needs.

Maine Children’s Home, founded in 1899, says it has supported more than 3,000 people each year through its initiatives.

The organization is planning a community and family block party on Thursday, Aug. 17, that will give the public a chance to meet and greet Marriner.
