Classical music is planned in the fields of Pumpkin Vine Family Farm, 217 Hewett Road in Somerville, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 (raindate: Aug. 19).
The second annual Strings in the Field will feature area musicians, Katherine Liccardo and Matt Consul, who believe in building community through music.
Liccardo and Consu met nine years ago at Kneisel Hall Summer Chamber Music Festival in the woods of Blue Hill. They moved from NYC to Maine in June of 2020 and have never looked back. Consul plays viola with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and is a teaching artist in the PSO’s Explorer’s Program. He also coaches chamber music at the Pineland Suzuki School. In addition to being a classical violist, he plays mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and sings; he was recently a semifinalist in Hallowell’s Central Maine Idol Competition.
Liccardo has a 35-student studio of violin and viola students across Maine, New York, Texas, California, and even Australia. She is a freelance performer, serves on the board of the Maine Suzuki Association, and helps run the concert series Vigorous Tenderness.
