Charlotte Donovan of Biddeford High has been named as a finalist for the 2023 Miss Maine Softball award, and Andrew Heffernan of South Portland has been named a finalist for Mr. Maine Baseball honors, it was announced Monday.

The awards are given annually to Maine’s top high school seniors in softball and baseball.

Donovan, a pitcher, was chosen as the 2022 Varsity Maine Player of the Year in softball. Biddeford is the defending Class A champion and the No. 1 seed in the Class A South playoffs.

Heffernan, a pitcher and outfielder, was recently named the Gatorade Maine Baseball Player of the Year. South Portland is the No. 2 seed in the Class A South playoffs.

Other finalists for Miss Maine Softball are Brooklyn Federico of Monmouth, Ella Hosford of Bucksport, Ana Lang of Searsport, Kaydence Morse of Oxford Hills and Lyndsee Reed of Hermon. The winner will be announced June 21 at the Senior All Star Games at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.

Other finalists for Maine Mr. Baseball, formally known as the Dr. John Winkin Award, are Alex Bartlett of Oceanside, Carson Black of Sacopee Valley, Kyle Delano of Oak Hill, Gabe Gifford of Old Town, Jason Libby of Bangor Christian and Eli Soehren of Oxford Hills. The winner will be announced at the Senior All Star Games at St. Joseph’s on June 20.
