RUMFORD — Starting pitcher Matt Marquis pitched four solid innings, and helped his own cause at the plate with two hits and two RBIs as the Monmouth baseball team muscled past Mountain Valley 6-2 on Tuesday.

Marquis allowed one hit, one walk and one run while striking out seven for the Mustangs (15-1). Kyle LePage struck out two while giving up one hit and one run in two innings of relief and Isaac Oliveira struck out two more in a hitless seventh. Kyle Palleschi also had two hits and drove in two for Monmouth, and Sam Calder had two hits as well.

Tyler Warren allowed eight hits in six innings for Mountain Valley (3-11), with three strikeouts. Seneca Jones struck out one batter and walked one in a hitless inning of relief. Jake New had a hit and an RBI, and Jones had the other hit and scored a run.

 

SKOWHEGAN 10, OXFORD HILLS 4: A five-run top of the sixth gave the River Hawks (11-5) control in their Class A North regular-season finale in Paris.

Hunter McEwen had two hits, including a double, for Skowhegan. Chance Tibbetts drove in two runs and Jackson Quinn hit a triple. Tibbetts pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits and one walk while striking out five.

Connor Fitts had three hits for Oxford Hills (12-4), and Hunter Tardiff had two, including a double. Eli Soehren also had two hits.

 

OAK HILL 7, MT. ABRAM 6: The Raiders (13-3) scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win in Wales.

Grayson Letourneau hit two doubles and Ethan Vattaso had one as part of his two-hit day for Oak Hill. Kyle Delano had three of the Raiders’ 12 hits and matched Vattaso with two RBIs. Aaron Ridlon had two hits out of the No. 9 spot.

Delano also pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out two.

Bear Rollins had two of Mt. Abram’s five hits and scored two runs. Bryce Wilcox drove in two runs. The Roadrunners (12-4) tied the game 6-6 with four runs in the top of the seventh after trailing 6-0 entering the fifth.

Payton Mitchell lasted three innings before being relieved by Kaden Pillsbury, who got the Roadrunners within one out of sending the game to extra innings.

 

SOFTBALL

 

OXFORD HILLS 2, SKOWHEGAN 1: Tristen Derenburger’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh gave the Vikings (15-1) a key Class A North win to close out the regular season in Paris.

Kyeria Morse allowed just three hits and three walks in seven innings, while striking out eight batters, to earn the win for Oxford Hills. Lily Noyes gave up five hits and two walks while striking out five in six-plus innings for Skowhegan.

The River Hawks (14-2) struck first in the top of the third, with Keysie Jones and Lydia Jones walking and Annabelle Morris following with a single to load the bases before Maddy Morris hit a sacrifice fly to score Keysie Jones.

The Vikings answered in the bottom of the fourth, with Maddy Miller singling, Kaydence Morse moving her over with another single and Charlotte McGreevy driving in Miller to tie the game.

 

ST. DOMINIC 9-9, RICHMOND 8-7: Maddie Andrews earned the pitching win in both victories as the Saints (8-8) edged the Bobcats (9-7) twice in a doubleheader in Richmond.

Andrews pitched all five innings in St. Dominic’s 9-8 victory in the first game, with the Saints as the designated home team. She gave up five hits, four earned runs and five walks, but struck out eight batters. She was able to secure the narrow win as Richmond scored four runs in the top of the fifth.

Emily Andrews pitched the first three innings of the second game, which St. Dominic won 9-7 in six innings as the road team. After Emily Andrews gave up four runs (one earned) and four hits in three innings, Maddie Andrews came on in relief and allowed just two hits in three innings.

GIRLS LACROSSE

 

BRUNSWICK 11, MARANACOOK-WINTHROP 7: Elizabeth Putnam scored four goals to lead the Dragons (12-2) in a Class B/C crossover game at Brunswick.

Kelsie Carlton had a late assist for Brunswick, picking up her 100th career point in the process.

The teams were tied 3-3 before Brunswick exploded for eight goals in the second half, including three by Putnam, to pull away for good.

Ashley Deschamp had two goals for Maranacook/Winthrop (8-5).

 

LINCOLN ACADEMY 11, GARDINER/HALL-DALE 9: Marley LeBel scored seven goals and Mariam Delisle chipped in four to lead the Eagles (10-4) over Gardiner/Hall-Dalle (6-8) in Gardiner.

Scarlett Stone made five saves for Lincoln Academy.

Gardiner’s Lily Divirsi scored the 199th goal of her career.

BOYS LACROSSE

 

Edward Little 17, CONY 10: Jack Thompson scored five goals and added three assists to help lead the Red Eddies to the win in Auburn.

Andrew Clements tallied four goals and one assist, Austin Sellinger sent in three goals and two assists and Tyler Grenier recorded two goals and one assist for Edward Little (3-9). Jack Pepin and Milo Small also scored, Cam Dufour dished out two assists, and Pepin and Joe Martel each provided an assist.

Bjorn Sandburg made five saves to earn the win for the Red Eddies, and Grenier and Clements combined to go 21 for 31 on faceoffs.

Cony fell to 1-12.
