The Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund board has approved a $18,739 grant for operations and training support of North Search and Rescue, including equipment that North SAR volunteers will use during training and searches.
The MOHF funds this initiative through the sale of the only lottery ticket that provides funding to wildlife and conservation groups in Maine.
North SAR volunteers are on call 24/7. They maintain skills and equipment to immediately deploy on search and rescue missions to assist the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife wardens and Baxter State Park rangers with their management and stewardship of public lands, parks, wildlife conservation areas, and public access to outdoor recreation sites and facilities to continue to strengthen Maine communities, providing safety for both Maine residents and visitors.
Interested volunteers can apply for membership in North SAR and to train in search and rescue activities by contacting North SAR at 207-667-2005 or visit northsar.org.
