Maine Woodland Owners plans to offer a woodlot management tour from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, May 18, of its Wiesendanger Wildlife Protection Area on Case Road in Winthrop.
Joe Roy, a private lands wildlife biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and Andy Shultz, a retired Maine Forest Service landowner outreach forester, will lead this program.
The program focuses on helping woodland owners understand forestry techniques that promote wildlife of all types, according to a news release from Jennifer Hicks, director of Maine Woodland Owners and editor of the organization’s publication “Maine Woodlands.”
The program, to be based on the Forestry for Wildlife series published in “Maine Woodlands,” will cover items such as the role of dead wood and tree snags in a woodlot, creating openings to promote forest undergrowth, and promoting native plant species to support important pollinators.
For more information, email Shultz at andy@aforestry.com or call 207-242-8845.
