PITTSFIELD — Kassie Snowman struck out 10 batters as the Maine Central Institute softball team defeated Winslow 7-5 on Friday afternoon.

Snowman allowed five hits and two earned runs while walking two batters. At the plate, she walked and scored a run. Trinity Leavitt stole two bases and drove in two runs for the Huskies (2-2), and teammate Hannah Robinson added two RBIs.

Emma Michaud allowed four hits and struck out eight for Winslow (2-2) and had two hits at the plate. Teammate Amber Phillips scored twice.

 

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 7, MARANACOOK 2: The Panthers scored four runs in the sixth inning for the victory in Yarmouth.

Lily Rawnsley earned the win in the circle for NYA (3-0), allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five.

Natalie Deane had two singles for the Black Bears (2-1).

 

SKOWHEGAN 8, MT. ARARAT 0: Carlie Jarvais pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the River Hawks won in Topsham.

Jackie Dodge and Callaway LePage had four hits apiece for Skowhegan (5-0) in the 16-hit effort. Lydia James added two hits.

Mt. Ararat fell to 0-2 with the loss.

 

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 12, TELSTAR 2: Brooklyn Federico collected three hits and combined with Shanna Parsons on a one-hitter in the circle as the Mustangs opened their season with a win over the Rebels in Monmouth.

One of Federico’s hits was a double, and Maddie Herr hit a triple as part of her two-hit day. Rileigh Chase and June Foyt also had two hits for Monmouth (1-0), which scored six in the second and ended the game an inning early with a five-run sixth.

Maylyn Hastings’ double was the lone hit for Telstar (0-2), which scored a run in the third inning and added another in the sixth.

BASEBALL

 

MT. ABRAM 5, OAK HILL 2: Logan Dube allowed just two runs on five hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Roadrunners (3-0) past the Raiders in Salem Township. 

Killian Pillsbury added three RBIs for Mt. Abram. Cam Grey had a base hit and scored two runs for the Roadrunners.

Ethan Vattaso had a double and an RBI for Oak Hill (1-1). He was also the losing pitcher, giving up four runs in 3 1/3 innings of work.

 

WINTHROP 3, MADISON 0: Tyler Shumway struck out 15 batters and tossed a three-hit shutout as the Ramblers (2-1) topped the Bulldogs in Winthrop.

Shumway also had a pair of hits for Winthrop, as did Jaxon August, Matt Beck and Will Grant. Beck also stole two bases for the Ramblers.

Austin Hay struck out five in 5 2/3 innings for Madison (1-2).

 

ERSKINE ACADEMY 4, MORSE 2: Holden McKenney’s two-run single in the top of the sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and powered the Eagles (3-1) to victory in Bath.

McKenney finished the day 2-for-2 with a walk for Erskine, while teammate Sam Boynton scored twice.

Bo Johnson pitched four innings of one-hit relief to earn the win. Starter Hunter Foard allowed three hits and two runs, one earned, over three innings.

Oscar Nelson had a hit and a walk for Morse (1-4). Starting pitcher Calin Gould allowed three hits and struck out 10 batters over five innings.

 

MT. BLUE 10, POLAND 9: Hayden Dippner hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Cougars (2-2) clawed past the Knights in Farmington.

Dippner also pitched five hitless innings to start the game, allowing two walks and two runs while striking out seven. Nolan Leso before Aiden Wilkins entered to throw a clean seventh, striking out two to set up Dippner’s heroics.

Leso led Mt. Blue with three hits, and Zach Poisson and Brody Walsh had two hits each with the latter driving in three runs. The Cougars had 12 hits as a team. Mt. Blue committed eight errors.

Sam Paladino and Isaac Ramsdell each had a hit and two RBIs for Poland. Drew Sayler had the other hit for the Knights (2-2).

WAYNFLETE/NYA 9, MARANACOOK 2: Tanner Anctil, Jack Byrne and Cal Nice drove in two runs each as the Flyers (4-0) defeated the Black Bears (3-2) in Portland.

Luke McLaughlin had two hits for Maranacook, which trailed 7-0 before scoring twice in the fifth.

 

GIRLS LACROSSE

 

MESSALONSKEE 11, LEWISTON 6: Julia Wade’s hat trick paced the Eagles (3-2) to a road win over the Blue Devils (1-3) in Lewiston.

Wade also added an assist for Messalonskee, which led 7-2 at halftime. Madi Doody and Sophia Ventimiglia each tallied two goals and an assist, Emma Jane Parsons scored twice, and Alex Caccamo and Madison McSweeney notched goals. Adriana Pettengill and Shea Cassani each made four saves in goal.

Caitlin D’Andrea totaled three goals and an assist to lead Lewiston’s offense. Julia Perkins and Kaitlyn Shannon recorded a goal and an assist apiece, Maddy Cote also scored and Maddy Langlais added an assist. Fiona Landry stopped eight shots for the Blue Devils.
