First lady Jill Biden will visit Maine next week as part of the Biden-Harris administration’s Investing in America tour.

The first lady is expected to visit Portland during her April 5 stop in Maine, where she will highlight how career-connected learning and workforce training programs are central to the Biden Education Pathway, the Office of the First Lady announced Friday.

Biden is expected to talk about the importance of investing in those training programs to prepare high school and community college students for jobs created by the Investing in America agenda.

Her office did not immediately release any details about where she will stop in Maine, but a media RSVP form from the first lady’s office lists her tour stop as Portland. She will also visit Vermont that day.

Gov. Janet Mills will join Biden to visit a community college in Maine, a spokesperson for the governor confirmed Friday. Her office said additional details about that visit will come from the Office of the First Lady.

A spokesperson for Southern Maine Community College referred questions about a possible visit to its campuses to the governor’s office.

“Gov. Mills looks forward to welcoming the First Lady to Maine to highlight how the state’s free community college initiative and historic federal investments from the Biden Administration through the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan are creating rewarding new career opportunities for Maine people in high-demand fields like precision manufacturing, clean energy and health care,” spokesperson Ben Goodman said in an email.

Jessica Grondin, spokesperson for the city of Portland, did not immediately respond Friday to questions about Biden’s expected stop in Portland.

During her more than 30 years as a teacher, Biden advocated for more educational opportunities for students, including career-connected learning and more affordable education options.

President Biden kicked off the Investing in America tour on March 28. The president and other senior advisers will visit more than 20 states in April to talk about investments from the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the American Rescue Plan, according to the White House.
