The photographs of Michael Burd are on display at the Woman’s Hospital Association Rotating Art Gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
A Mainer by birth and by choice, Burd states that “The grand state of Maine, to even the most casual observer, offers a rich tapestry of stories just waiting to be found. I take delight in the surprise of every discovery, and in the weaving of the tale to be visually re-told. Thematic inspirations resonate with a reverence for home and a passion for curiosity and wonder. My photographs explore the mediums of expired 35mm and medium format film as well as digital. Black and white film images are developed in a curious home-brew concoction called “caffenol”.
A professional bassist, he adds to his diverse life by contributing to performance and projects with artists David Mallett, Noel Paul Stookey and Rick Charette. An instructor with Franklin County Adult Education, he lives in Industry with his wife, Cindy.
The works on display may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop located adjacent to the main lobby at Central Maine Medical Center. A percentage of sale proceeds benefits patients of CMMC.
