HINCKLEY — L.C. Bates Museum, 14 Easler Road, plans to offering several events in February.
Make a Sailors Valentines or Shell Picture is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the museum.
Using real shells, people can try an old sailors tradition of making a valentine with seashells and small stones or make a picture using shells. All the materials will be provided, according to a news release from Deborah Staber, museum curator.
The Endangered Animals Tour will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.
In this guided tour, some of the endangered, threatened and extinct species found in the museum’s collection will be highlighted. Some species that have made remarkable recoveries because of recent conservation efforts will be discussed.
Earth and Space Kit Activities is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25.
Participants can explore the moon and its craters and make a moon phase activity to take home.
During school vacation week, people can visit the museum and take a self-guided tour or do a natural history scavenger hunt.
Later in the year, natural science, history and astronomy camps will be offered at the museum in June and July. The different camps will explore the museum collections and outdoor spaces. The camps’ activities are designed to promote curiosity and fun learning experiences.
