AUGUSTA — A woman struck and injured by a pickup truck while crossing Memorial Drive Tuesday may have been in a crosswalk when hit, according to police, who are continuing to investigate the incident.

Augusta police initially declined to release the identities of the people involved in the crash, but said Thursday the pedestrian who was struck was Nicole Seitzbussey, 38, of Augusta. The driver of the 1993 Ford F-250 pickup truck which struck her was Audra Ziobro, 30, of Augusta.

Deputy Police Chief Kevin Lully said Ziobro was traveling west on Memorial Drive and Seitzbussey was walking across Memorial Drive, “possibly in the marked crossing,” when Ziobro, who he said did not see Seitzbussey, struck her.

An Augusta Rescue ambulance took Seitzbussey to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta where she was then taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Fire Chief Dave Groder said Wednesday.

Lully said he did not know the severity of Seitzbussey’s injuries.

A spokesperson for Maine Medical Center said Thursday she had no information on a patient by that name.

The crash on Memorial Drive, near Gage Street, took place at 3:18 p.m. Tuesday.

Maine State Police reconstructed the crash, and Lully said police still have witnesses to interview in the investigation.

The incident took place near where an Augusta man, Dana Williams, was hit and killed by a pickup truck in 2018.

Officials introduced a number of changes in the following years to make the Memorial Drive area safer for pedestrians, including eliminating one of the westbound lanes coming off Memorial Bridge and closing the entrance to Gage Street from westbound Memorial Drive.

The city also installed rapid repeating flashing beacons, which allow crosswalk users to push a button to activate flashing lights that warn motorists someone is crossing Memorial Drive.
