BANGOR — A 31-year-old Waterville man pleaded guilty Thursday at U.S. District Court in Bangor to a drug trafficking charge, federal prosecutors said.
Patrick Hanson pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maine.
Hanson was arrested Oct. 15, 2021, after the Waterville Police Department received information he had threatened someone. After the arrest, Hanson was found to have seven packages of suspected narcotics in his possession, including one package that he kicked under a door at the police station.
The packages were found to contain about 43 grams of a mixture containing fentanyl.
It was not clear why Hanson attempted to kick one package under a police door, and a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Bangor was not available to explain.
Hanson was indicted by a grand jury in December on two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs (fentanyl powder), domestic violence terrorizing and another charge, all stemming from the October arrest, prosecutors said.
Hanson was convicted in 2013 of drug charges that included conspiracy to distribute oxycodone.
A federal judge is expected to sentence Hanson after an investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office is completed.
Hanson faces up to 30 years in prison.
