Authorities raided suspected meth-producing properties in Palmyra on Thursday and arrested three people on drug-related charges, saying also that children were removed from the scene.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 115 and 135 Wyman Road, identified as belonging to Joseph and Jessica Quimby, according to a news release Friday from the sheriff’s office. Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi obtained the warrant following a month’s-long investigation into drug activity at the properties.
Seized during the raid were several grams of fentanyl, several grams of methamphetamine, 69 Suboxone strips, two firearms, methamphetamine lab production products, drug activity-related documentation, drug paraphernalia and $160 in cash, according to the sheriff’s office. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection removed toxic methamphetamine lab materials from the scene, the sheriff’s office said, while the Maine Department of Health and Human Services also responded because children were there.
Joseph Quimby, 40, of Palmyra, was arrested on charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A felony, and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, a Class C crime. His bail was set at $25,000 cash. Jessica Quimby, 44, of Palmyra, was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.
Matthew Flanders, 36, of Athens, was arrested on a Class C charge of operating after revocation. He was already on probation for an unrelated charge and was being held on a probation hold at the Somerset County Jail.
Joseph Quimby and Flanders were scheduled to make initial court appearances Jan. 4, and Jessica Quimby’s court appearance was set for Feb. 8, all in the Somerset County Unified Criminal Court.
The sheriff’s office said four of its detectives and seven of its deputies participated in the raid, as did two agents from the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and two agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Police said more charges may be forthcoming once the case has been reviewed by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office.
