Do you think Maine needs a Parents Bills of Rights, as proposed by Paul LePage to address Maine’s “woke” education system?

Hot-button issues involving public education took center stage this week in the race for Maine governor, after Paul LePage unveiled a platform that included a Parents Bill of Rights as part of a new plan to address what he calls Maine’s “woke” education system.

LePage, the former Republican governor, said he wants Maine schools to get back to teaching the basics of reading, science and math and to stop addressing topics such as gender and sexual diversity without parental consent. In releasing the plan, LePage claimed his opponent, Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat, had been “focused on pushing extreme woke agendas on our kids that is divisive and age inappropriate.”

Some parents at LePage’s plan unveiling said some school districts and teachers now ask students to choose gender pronouns for school use and then ask if those differ from what is used at home.

But what do you think? Do you think Maine needs a Parents Bills of Rights? Do you agree with LePage that such a plan is needed to address Maine’s “woke” education system?  Tell us what you think in the poll and comments below.
