The media has been all over the story of the “good guy with a gun” who shot and killed an active shooter at an Indiana mall. I’m sure the NRA and their gun-slinging followers will now be preaching, “See, we told you that the only way to deal with a ‘bad guy’ with a gun is to employ a ‘good guy’ with a gun.”

Indeed, that “good guy” probably did save a few lives.

As for the effectiveness of “good guys” with a gun, let’s look at their record. Last year, 40,000 people were shot and killed with a gun. That means that the good guy failed 40,000 times.

If any Major League Baseball player had that kind of batting record, he’d be pumping gas for a living.
