FARMINGTON — Farmington Parks and Recreation completed its homeschool gym class with a fun day Friday, May 20, at Hippach Field.

Students played rousing games of kickball, then were presented certificates of achievement for completing the program. Afterwards they were treated to ice cream at Gifford’s.

About 20 students have been meeting every Friday since November at the Community Center, Assistant Director Jennifer Savage said. The program got a late start because of uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, she said.

“We waited on some things to make the best choices safety wise this year,” Savage said.

Families from Farmington, Wilton, Chesterville and Vienna took part in the program this year.

Several families have chosen to homeschool their children, have chosen that route in the last couple years, Savage said.

The gym class “gives parents a chance to toss ideas around, build community,” she added.
