The Midcoast High Winds Flute Choir will perform as part of the Oasis of Music concert series beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.
The flute choir is an ensemble of amateur and professional musicians from Maine’s Midcoast region that has been entertaining community audiences since 2015 with a varied repertoire of classical, folk and popular music arrangements, as well as original compositions for flute choir. Their performance will include works by Scarlatti, Brahms, Smetana and Leonard Cohen.
Along with typical concert flutes, High Winds members also perform on less common instruments, including piccolos, alto flutes and bass flutes, giving the ensemble a wide spectrum of pitches and tonal colors. Currently under the direction of Carolyn Lanigan, High Winds is available for performances in the Midcoast area, and is also welcoming new performing members.
