River Arts in Damariscotta has announced a call to artists for “Wild Things.”
Participants are invited to respond to the theme to reflect their own interpretation. Work can be representational or abstract. Submission to “Wild Things” is open to original artwork in all media including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, fiber, photography and mixed media, according to a news release from the gallery.
Works for submission can be delivered during regular gallery hours until the deadline, 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at 36 Elm Street Plaza.
River Arts is limiting the size for this show because of an overwhelming number of expected submissions. Artists can enter two pieces with a size limit of 15-inch by 15-inch including frame. Or artists can enter one larger piece up to a size limit of 48-inch by 48-inch including frame. The entry fee for members is $15, and for non-members is $30.
All work must be gallery ready, and clean and dry. Wall pieces should be wired securely with screw eyes and picture wire. They should not weigh more than 30 pounds.
Diptychs are allowed, but multiple-piece works larger than two pieces will not be accepted.
Notification of accepted work will be posted online at riverartsme.org and on Facebook.
“Wild Things” is scheduled to run from May 10 through June 11. The artists’ reception will be Saturday, May 14. For more information, call the gallery at 207-563-6868. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Tammy Ackerman, the juror for this show, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine art from Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and works as an arts’ consultant, independent designer, and ceramic artist.
She is the former executive director and co-founder of Engine, a nonprofit arts organization in Biddeford. In her 10-plus years there, Ackerman staged approximately 10 contemporary and community art exhibitions a year, curating herself or working with guest curators.
