I am Corey Wilson, and I am seeking the House District 57 seat in the Maine Legislature, representing Winthrop and Readfield.
I am seeking this position because we need strong leaders to address the challenges that we face as a state. I have held many leadership positions in my lifetime. I joined the Marine Corps at 17 years old and rose to the rank of sergeant, serving two combat tours in Iraq. I was elected as a state representative as well as a city councilor for Augusta, serving a total of five years. I held many senior-level positions within the Department of Veterans Affairs before resigning to start my own company, Wilson’s Recreation.
Our state faces many challenges, but these two are priorities for me:
Energy: We must lower the cost of electricity. I have been leading a group of energy experts and lawmakers to develop a plan to significantly lower the costs of electricity. We will work to bring more supply to Maine — more hydro, more natural gas, invest in biomass plants, and we will create and fund a cabinet-level position for energy charged with long-term planning to ensure we meet the long-term energy needs for Mainers.
Addiction: Overdoses are at an all-time high, yet we are be doing little to address it. My own family, like so many others, has been hit very hard by addiction. We must make this a priority. I will continue working with a broad coalition of people — law enforcement, courts, treatment providers, legislators, and recovering addicts. We are crafting a plan that will increase funding for programs to treat addiction — mark my words that we will get it done.
Together we can right the ship — I humbly ask for your vote in November.
