Litchfield residents have a chance to correct a situation in which the animal shelter is an 8-by-12-foot box trailer. There is also no way to surrender pets. People who want the select board to contract with the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, as it has done for many years, should make their voices be heard.
Send letters to the three people on the select board and tell them that at the annual meeting on June 18 at 10 a.m. that you want the contract with the humane society to be on the warrant. Do this as soon as possible. Then go to the town meeting and vote. The town website (www.litchfieldmaine.org) has contact information for the select board. Send a letter. Send an email. Check the Sodalite for the location of the annual town meeting.
There is a video on the town website of the March 14 select board meeting when several people expressed their concern about the shelter. There was a story with pictures in the March 16 Kennebec Journal about the animal shelter, “Litchfield residents urge contracting with the Humane Society for animal shelter instead of using a box trailer.”
