In early April 2017, Community Church in Augusta held a unique family event with high expectations: a helicopter Easter egg drop.
A low-flying helicopter hovered over the field at their Mission Avenue campus, dropping thousands of plastic eggs filled with candy. After the chopper had flown off, children from around the region made their way onto the field, collecting the eggs.
Now named Central Church and coming out of the pandemic, the church is bringing the event back after a five-year hiatus. This time, it will be held at the Augusta Elks headquarters located at 397 Civic Center Dr. in Augusta.
The event is scheduled to start promptly at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 according to their Facebook event. Other locations will have helicopter drops, including the church’s campus is China, which is hosting the same event that day at 11:15 a.m. at the China Recreation Fields at 763 Lakeview Dr.
In addition to the egg drop, volunteers will also be hiding eggs all over the locations.
The egg events come in advance of Easter Sunday, which is April 17.
