Belief is a very powerful and distinctive characteristic in any person. Belief motivates change and action. Belief can change a comedic person on public media into a glimmering national leader during time of conflict and struggle. Belief has synonyms of confidence, certainty, and trust. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines belief as “conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence.” I believed in the power of education to elevate Black people, so I pursued both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. I believed in my country, so I joined the Marine Corps, even during peacetime. I believed in my need for a personal savior, so I asked Jesus Christ into my life. What do you believe in? What motivates you to action?
Today, belief calls for the advanced citizenry of the United States of America to require more of our elected officials. The Constitution say if we do not like the form of government in office, “We the people” must act civilly to effect change. Even the Holy Bible says we change our world one person at a time, to effect change in our world. I believe therefore I act.
As I achieve 65 years old this week, I invite us all, as Americans, as believers in God, and inhabitants of Earth, to act and effect change for the good of life. As we believe, therefore let us act. Slava Ukraine. Pax (Peace).
