The University of Maine at Augusta women’s basketball team managed to sweep rival Central Maine Community College during the regular season.
On Tuesday night, the Mustangs got their revenge on the Moose.
Eliza Brault scored 19 points to lead CMCC to a 45-39 win over UMA in the quarterfinal round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II tournament at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Virginia.
The Mustangs (26-3) will play Cinicinnati-Clermont — which beat Southern Maine Community College 63-51 in the quarterfinals late Tuesday night — in the semifinal round Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Virginia State University. The Moose (18-9) will play Penn State Beaver in a consolation round matchup Wednesday night at 5 p.m. at Richard Bland College.
UMA was up 28-27 over CMCC entering the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs outscored the Moose 18-11 in the final period to seal the victory.
Emily Strachan added nine points for CMCC.
UMA was led by Monmouth Academy graduate Kaeti Butterfield, who scored 11 points. Hope Butler scored 10 points, while Madeline Suhr added nine points for the Moose.
