SKOWHEGAN — Somerset County Soil & Water Conservation District plans to offer an outdoors, skill-building workshop on how to prune apple trees from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 6, at the Yankee Woodlot Demonstration Forest, 7 County Drive.

The introductory workshop will include a repeat of that session on Saturday, March 12.

Apple tree enthusiast Joe Dembeck will lead this hands-on workshop. Dembeck will discuss methods and tools used to prune apple trees in order to increase their viability and production, according to a news release from the district.

Participants can learn and test their skills pruning apple trees. They should dress warmly for the outdoors and can bring their own pruning equipment.

The workshop is free, but advanced registration is required. Enrollment will be limited to ensure a safe and productive event for all participants.

This community learning event is co-sponsored by Somerset County SWCD, Maine Woodland Owners — Upper Kennebec Valley Chapter, Somerset County Cooperative Extension and Maine Forest Service.

To register or more information, contact Dembeck at 207-474-8323 or email somersetswcd.outreach@gmail.com.
