PITTSFIELD —The Waterville boys basketball team didn’t wait long to provide the 2022 postseason with some dramatics.

Nick Poulin scored 25 points to lead the way as the 17th-ranked Purple Panthers rallied back from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat No. 16 Maine Central Institute 69-67 in the play-in round of the Class B North tournament.

Poulin hit seven 3-pointers while sparking the comeback for Waterville (2-17), which trailed 37-22 at the break but ended up breaking an eight-game losing streak and earning its first victory since Jan. 15.

Liam Von Oesen added 19 points for Waterville, which also got 10 points from Spencer Minihan and seven from Joe Hamelin and will now play No. 1 Ellsworth in the Round of 16.

Max Bottenfield scored 25 points for the Huskies (4-15), who beat Waterville in the season finale on Thursday. K.K. Martinez added 13 for MCI and Carter Bubar and Braeden Kennedy each had seven.

LEWISTON 10, ST. DOMINIC/WINTHROP/GRAY-NG/MONMOUTH 1: Leah Dube, Toree St. Hilaire, Charlotte Cloudier and Leah Landry each scored two goal to lead the No. 1 Blue Devils to the win.

Kim McLaughlin made four saves for Lewiston (15-2).

Georgiana Davidson scored an unassisted goal for the Saints (6-10) while Aubrey White made 27 saves.
