Mid-Coast Audubon plans to accept bird seed orders until Friday, Feb. 25, to raise funds to support bird conservation and education programming.
Orders can be placed through the Audubon’s website, or by mail-in form, available at midcoast.maineaudubon.org.
Seeds must be picked up between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, March 5 at one of two locations: Plants Unlimited, 629 Commercial St. in Rockport, or Lincoln County Publishing, 116 Mills Road in Newcastle. People should specify on order their preferred pickup location.
Five varieties will be offered this spring: Black oil sunflower seed, 20 pounds for $22, or 40 pounds for $36; Sunflower meaties (hulled), 25 pounds for $30, or 50 pounds for $52; Melody Mix, 20 pounds for $17, or 40 pounds for $28; Thistle (Nyger), five pounds for $12; and suet blocks, $2.50 each.
“Our spring and fall bird seed sales are important fundraisers for the organization, as all of our events … offered free to the public. Proceeds from this sale help to provide support for speaker fees for our public programs, maintenance and repairs of our preserves, birdfeeder station grants to educational institutions, and more,” MCA President Susan Schubel said in a news release from the Audubon chapter, which serves Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties.
All seed is ordered, so payment is needed by 5 p.m. Feb 25. Checks should be made payable to Mid-Coast Audubon, and sent to Seed Sale Sue, 12 Audubon Road, Bremen, ME 04551.
For more information, check out the organization’s Facebook page, or email Schubel at tidewater.net and add “BIRDSEED” in the subject line.
