SKOWHEGAN — A 34-year-old woman who was walking near downtown Tuesday night suffered serious injuries when hit by a pickup truck that fled the scene, according to police.
Jessica Dunton of Skowhegan suffered injuries to her head and legs when struck by the red pickup on Island Avenue shortly before 8 p.m., police Chief David Bucknam said in a statement released to the news media.
Officer Benaiah Willhoite responded to the scene and determined the pickup was traveling toward Water Street when it hit Dunton, according to Bucknam.
Dunton was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan and then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
No other details were available Wednesday, according to police.
