AUGUSTA — A couple from Skowhegan was arrested on charges of drug trafficking after they allegedly purchased fentanyl and cocaine in Massachusetts with the intention of selling it in central Maine, Maine State Police said Thursday.
Christopher Park, 42, and Stacy Bowman, 36, each was charged with Class A felony counts of aggravated drug trafficking after police and drug enforcement agents found 330 grams of fentanyl and 85 grams of cocaine in their Ford Escape during a traffic stop in the Augusta area Wednesday, police said in a news release.
The estimated street value of the drugs was about $60,000, according to police.
The arrests occurred after agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency received information that a Skowhegan man and his girlfriend had purchased illicit drugs in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and intended to take them back to Maine for distribution in Kennebec and Somerset counties.
Investigators learned that the pair was traveling in the Escape, with Park driving and Bowman in the passenger seat. Working with investigators from Massachusetts, agents confirmed the SUV was in Haverhill earlier Wednesday.
Agents saw the SUV traveling northbound on Interstate 95 near Gardiner and then later made the stop.
Park and Bowman were taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta, where bail was set at $15,000 each.
