Hadithi Bani-Adam and and Mohamed Ali Ibrahim will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 8, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.
Bani-Adam is a singer of traditional songs and a singer-songwriter, who accompanies himself on the oud, the traditional plucked string instrument of the Middle East and East Africa. He arrived in this country as a refugee who lived in threatening circumstances in Somalia due to his peace-making songs and activities. Today Bani-Adam works as a social worker while attending CMCC.
Mohamed Ali Ibrahim is a well-known figure in the community, working for the Maine Peoples’ Alliance.
Together they sing the songs of their African homeland, keeping the musical and linguistic pieces of their culture alive.
The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. COVID restrictions of optional mask-wearing and social distancing are observed. The concerts are held in the downstairs chapel. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
