AUGUSTA — The Maranacook football team will play Dexter in the eight-man small state championship game Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
Waterville, meanwhile, will play Cheverus at 11 a.m. Saturday in the eight-man large state championship game, also at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
The Black Bears (5-3), seeded fifth in the small South division, knocked off No. 4 Old Orchard Beach, No. 1 Telstar and No. 2 Dirigo to reach the state final. Maranacook has out-scored its opposition 146-41 in the playoffs. Dexter, the No. 3 seed out of small North, has out-scored its opponents 133-52 in the playoffs.
The Purple Panthers, meanwhile, head into the large state championship game as the top seed in the North. They ousted Mount Desert Island and Morse in the regional playoffs. Waterville will face a Cheverus team that hasn’t been scored upon since the first half of an Oct. 1 game at Mt. Ararat. The Stags and Purple Panthers are in their first seasons competing in eight-man football.
Tickets for the games are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors/students.
