SKOWHEGAN — A Somerset County grand jury indicted 12 people last week on a variety of charges, including theft and drug trafficking.
The indictments included an Embden man who was charged in June following a police chase.
Michael M. Thomas, 26, was indicted on charges that include theft by unauthorized taking, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, eluding an officer, aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a firearm, aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
Officials said Thomas led police on a brief chase June 10 after an Embden resident reported her truck missing.
Thomas was later identified as the operator of the stolen truck. He had pulled into a ditch, left the truck and eventually used another vehicle. He was then located by police, whom he led on a chase during which he drove erratically and threw a handgun out the window, according to police.
Police lost Thomas but said he was later arrested when he was found trespassing at a residence in Bingham. Officers subsequently searched his house, after which additional charges were filed.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but an indication there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial.
