NORWAY — Father Ed Clifford and the St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish are collecting new white socks for the homeless.
On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28 and 29 and Sept. 4 and 5, community members and parishioners from St. Catherine of Sienna Church at 32 Paris St. in Norway and Our Lady of Ransom Church at 117 Elm St. in Mechanic Falls, are encouraged to donate socks.
“The collection coincides with the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta on Sept. 5,” said Bill Wood of Catholic Charities Maine, who will oversee the distribution of the socks to those in need, according to a news release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
“The collection is now in its fourth year, and any help or donation is appreciated,” said Rosalie Ketchum, the organizer of the sock collection. “We know there is a need for socks for the homeless every winter in Maine, so this is a project that will continue.”
