Friday’s game between the Portland Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats at Hadlock Field has been rained out and will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 5 p.m.

The Sea Dogs will take a four-game winning streak into the doubleheader, including three wins this week against the Yard Goats. Portland (31-23) is in second place in the Northeast Division of Double-A Northeast, 4 1/2 games behind the Somerset Patriots.

The fireworks that were scheduled for Friday night will instead take place on Saturday, July 24, after a game against the Harrisburg Senators.

Taking part in cycling’s biggest race for the first time since 2018, Cavendish won the 137-mile trek into Carcassonne, France, for his fourth victory in 13 stages.

Overall leader Tadej Pogacar had another quiet day in the peloton and kept his 5:18 lead over second-placed Rigoberto Uran.

GOLF

PGA TOUR: Luke List has a happy and healthy home life with his newborn son, and he felt pretty good about his golf game in the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois.

List ran off seven birdies in an eight-hole stretch in the middle of his round, his only par on a 12-foot birdie chance on the 15th hole, and posted an 8-under 63. That gave him a one-shot lead over Sebastian Munoz going into the weekend at the TPC Deere Run.

List was at 13-under 129.

Munoz played early and shot a 4-under 67, getting all his birdies on the back nine and then finishing with 10 pars.

Former tournament winner Ryan Moore had a chance to catch List until he ran into trouble off the 18th tee and made bogey, giving him a 66 and leaving him among seven players two shots off the lead. That group included Lucas Glover and Chase Seiffert, each with 63.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Jim Furyk shot a 6-under 64, the best round in two days at Omaha Country Club, to take a two-stroke lead over Stephen Ames at the U.S. Senior Open in Nebraska.

The 2003 U.S. Open champion and 17-time PGA Tour winner rebounded from an opening 72 to get to 4 under.

First-round co-leader Ames bogeyed four of the first six holes on his second nine and shot 73. Two-time U.S. Senior Open runner-up Miguel Angel Jimenez (71) was 1 under.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Rory McIlroy was waiting to get his second round underway on the 10th hole at the Scottish Open when a spectator wandered on to the tee, grabbed a 6-iron from the four-time major winner’s golf bag and started taking swings.

It wasn’t long before the interloper was ejected from the tournament, and McIlroy went on to miss the cut in a tune-up for next week’s British Open.

McIlroy shot an even-par 71 and was 1 under for the tournament, 10 shots off the lead held by Jon Rahm (65), Thomas Detry (65) and Jack Senior (67).

LPGA: Nasa Hataoka made four straight birdies on the back nine to hang onto the lead at the Marathon LPGA Classic in Sylvania, Ohio.

A day after making six straight birdies in an opening 10-under 61, the 22-year-old Japanese player rallied late to salvage a 69.

Her lead was cut from four to two strokes, with American Mina Harigae second after her second straight bogey-free 66.

AMERICAN CENTURY CHAMPIONSHIP: Hall of Fame hockey player Mike Modano holed out from 205 yards on the par-5 18th for the first albatross in tournament history and a share of the first-round lead with baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz in the celebrity event in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Smoltz and Modano each had 25 points. Actor and singer Jack Wagner, a two-time winner of the event,  and NHL player Joe Pavelski were a point back.
