WATERVILLE — Motorists this weekend should expect temporary road closures on Mayflower Hill Drive in Waterville as Colby College hosts a brief fireworks display Saturday night and hundreds of pedestrians cross the road for commencement activities Sunday.
Part of the road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Saturday for the fireworks. And on Sunday, Mayflower Hill Drive through campus will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as pedestrians cross the road in front of Miller Library according to Colby officials.
The road will have north and south closure points.
Thru-traffic approaching Colby from the south will be asked to turn around, according to Colby officials. Motorists may opt to turn onto Mount Merici Avenue, prompting additional traffic in that neighborhood, the college said.
Security officers will be stationed to manage traffic at all closing points and emergency vehicles will be allowed to travel through them.
Poet Richard Blanco will be the graduation speaker Sunday.
Those with questions are asked to call Colby’s Department of Security at 207-859-4000.
