PARIS — A Norway man is facing numerous charges following a high-speed pursuit Sunday through Oxford, Norway and Paris.
Dylan Michaud, 27, was charged with operating under the influence, eluding an officer, driving to endanger and failing to stop.
On Sunday, Paris police Officer Caroline Casey spotted Michaud driving a 2004 Buick Rainier erratically and crashing over curbing in front of Applebee’s restaurant on Main Street in Oxford. Casey, with cruiser lights and siren on, attempted to pull Michaud over, but he took off. The officer located the vehicle in the parking lot of Len’s Auto farther north on Main Street in Norway. Michaud jumped back into the vehicle and sped off again, Paris Police Chief Michael Dailey said.
The Buick continued north, passing Stephens Memorial Hospital before turning onto Cottage Street, where the vehicle struck several trees.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle, but soon spotted it driving down Deering Street. The vehicle finally pulled into the driveway at Community Gardens on Whitman Street. Michaud attempted to flee on foot, but gave himself up after a brief chase.
During the pursuit, Michaud drove across several residential lawns and through a park. According to reports, Michaud nearly struck a small child, Dailey said.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Oxford County Jail in Paris did not accept Michaud as an inmate and he was released, Dailey said.
