SKOWHEGAN — A Norridgewock man faces several charges after leading officers Wednesday on automobile and foot chases, according to police.

Dustin Page, 31, faces two counts of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug, unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, criminal speed, driving to endanger, reckless conduct and trafficking in prison contraband, according to Chief David Bucknam of the Skowhegan Police Department.

Police said Page was on probation when arrested late Wednesday.

After the chases, officers recovered $11,760 in cash, more than 120 grams of fentanyl, 200 pills identified as gabapentin and 1.6 grams of methamphetamine, according to Bucknam.

A small bag of cocaine was found on Page after he was brought to the Somerset County Jail in Madison, according to Bucknam.

Bucknam wrote in an email Thursday that at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Officer Alex Burns attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Impala on Waterville Road because it had an expired registration.

The driver reportedly failed to stop and accelerated away from the officer, making high-speed turns onto side streets. The officer ended his pursuit on Back Road in Skowhegan.

The red Chevrolet was spotted a short time later on the side of the Norridgewock Road. When the officer turned on his cruiser’s flashing lights, two males exited the Chevrolet and ran into the woods, according to police.

Burns attempted to follow the fleeing driver, later identified as Page. Burns lost Page in the woods and returned to his vehicle to await Cpl. Jake Pierce’s arrival.

When Pierce arrived, Burns walked in the direction where the driver had fled. The officer found a large amount of money on the ground, where the suspect had fallen while fleeing, according to police.

Burns continued into the woods and found Page lying over an embankment, where he had “lost his footing and ran into a tree,” police said.

“Dustin sustained a broken wrist and possible concussion from his collision with the tree,” Bucknam wrote in his email.

Page was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan for medical care, and then to the Somerset County Jail, where his bail was set at $75,000.
