The Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a virtual concert of performances from regional talent at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, on its Facebook page. The show will feature Irish and Irish-influenced music from Maine artists Dave Rowe, Jud Caswell, Bitter Brew, and Castlebay.

Rowe is a singer-songwriter and interpreter of traditional and modern song whose 30-year career has had him on stages all over the eastern seaboard and throughout America’s heartland. His music springs from deep roots borne out of the song traditions of Ireland and the British Isles, cultivated in the roots music of North America, and filtered through his classical training. Rowe’s recent journey by boat, circumnavigating the eastern U.S. on the “Great Loop” took him through the waters of twenty-four U.S. states and one Canadian province and provided fodder for an entire album project full of new music.

A seventh-generation Mainer, multi-instrumentalist Jud Caswell burst on to the national scene in 2006 with a win at the prestigious Kerrville New Folk competition, where his song “Blackberry Time” was hailed by songwriting guru Pat Pattison as a “perfect song.” His songs have been taught at Berklee College of Music, recorded by Judy Collins, and named “#4 Song of the Decade” by New York’s WFUV.

Whether singing heartfelt Irish ballads, lively pub songs or hardy maritime tunes, the dynamic vocal harmonies of Bitter Brew will enchant and delight any audience. Bitter Brew creates an atmosphere of excitement and merriment regularly at favorite Irish pubs, including performing for many years at Irish-American singalongs at Byrnes Irish Pub in Bath.

The acclaimed folk duo Castlebay.

Castlebay weaves together Maine’s nautical and British Isles legacies, transporting their audience through time and across the Atlantic. Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee’s finely crafted ballads are filled with evocative imagery and beautiful melodies, and depict Maine characters, history, and life. Their renditions of traditional and original songs are supported with Celtic harp, 12-string guitar, fiddle & woodwinds. Their performance will feature a guest appearance from Sharon Pyne on flute.

The show will be free to watch, and audience members will be asked to consider donating to support CCAC and the performing artists.
