100 Years Ago: 1921
The annual bowling banquet and entertainment of the Calumet Club was held last evening at Odd Fellows Hall on Lisbon Street. More than 150 members of the club attended the affair which is one of the leading events in club life. The banquet was served at 6:30 with the first part of the entertainment program immediately after. During the intermission the presentations of prizes, individual and teams took place.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Hundreds of area shoppers visited the all-new W. T. Grant Store in Lewiston today as the doors of the large establishment were opened for the first time to ‘the general public. A large number of Lewiston city officials, business leaders and executives of Grant’s were on hand for the brief opening ceremonies. The store is located off East Avenue, between Pleasant Street and Lisbon Street in the Lewiston Mall Shopping Center, the third store to open there. Store Manager Robert Cameron, following the opening ceremonies, noted that the store contains about 100,000 square feet of selling space, has 35 departments, and employs 140 persons. It Includes an auto center, a complete garden shop. and a restaurant — which can be entered either from the store or from an outside entrance.
25 Years Ago: 1996
ERA Worden Realty entertained students, faculty and parents of Washburn School in Auburn, recently at a Read-A-Thon celebration. ERA Worden adopted Washburn School in 1991 as a Partner in Education. Several members of the sales team acted out stories for the audience. Participating were Libby Cronkhite, Carl Beckett, Elaine Lajoie, Lori Hart, Jan Fenno, Dave Johnson, Mary Ann Norcross, Tom Grenier, Anne Servidio, Judy Worden and Tim Worden.
