A person connected with China Primary School has tested positive for COVID-19 and close contacts will quarantine until March 5.

Regional School Unit 18 Superintendent Carl Gartley sent out a notice to the school community Wednesday afternoon, notifying everyone of the case, saying that the person who tested positive notified his office.

“The last time this person was in the school was Monday 2/22/21,” Gartley’s note says. “Amanda Saucier, our school nurse, Principal (Darlene) Pietz, and other staff conducted contract tracing. The students and staff who were identified as close contacts have all been notified. These people will be quarantining until Friday, 3/5/2021. Their names will be submitted to the Department of Education Contact Tracing Team.”

Pietz is working with her staff to ensure continuity in educational services, according to Gartley.

“Again, I want to thank everyone involved for their response in helping us with this incident,” his note says. “I hope you all stay healthy.”

Calls to both Gartley and Pietz late Wednesday afternoon were not immediately returned.

China Primary enrolls about 250 students in prekindergarten through grade four, according to the school’s website. RSU 18 includes the towns of China, Oakland, Sidney, Rome and Belgrade.
