Officials at Vassalboro Community School and Clinton Elementary School have announced single cases of COVID-19 in individuals associated with the schools.
In a letter to the community, Vassalboro Superintendent Alan Pfeiffer has written that a cohort in one grade level will attend school remotely for the next 10 days.
“We are informing you out of an abundance of caution,” Pfeiffer wrote. “As always, our first priority is the safety of our students and staff, and we will always err on the side of caution.”
Vassalboro Community School enrolls about 400 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The latest case of COVID-19 infection is the school’s fourth in the 2020-21 school year.
At Clinton Elementary School, Roberta Hersom, superintendent in Maine School Administrative District 49, reported a case of COVID-19 on Monday.
Hersom informed the community through a letter posted on the district’s website.
“I am writing to inform you of a positive case of COVID-19 at Clinton Elementary School with no other individuals at the school identified as close contacts,” Hersom wrote.
“The MDOE (Maine Department of Education) and the Maine CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention) were notified. This individual was not present in the school for any time during the infectious period. At this time, there are no other cases to report.”
There are no other known cases of COVID-19 infection in the district at this time, according to Hersom.
