Cases of COVID-19 have been reported at central Maine schools, including Monmouth Memorial School, Mount View High School in Thorndike, Nokomis Regional High School in Newport and Waterville Senior High School.
MONMOUTH MEMORIAL SCHOOL
Monmouth Memorial School has reported one positive COVID-19 case, according to school officials.
The case, reported Friday, prompted officials to switch to remote learning until Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The positive coronavirus test marked the second reported case at Monmouth Memorial School this academic year, and came as Maine is experiencing a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.
Monmouth postponed parent-teacher conferences until December, and the school’s “Stuff The Bus” event is being moved to a later date.
Monmouth Memorial is part of Regional School Unit 2 and serves students from prekindergarten through eighth grade. It had been conducting classes through a hybrid learning model until this week.
MOUNT VIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Regional School Unit 3 officials announced Tuesday a positive case of COVID-19 at Mount View High School in Thorndike.
In a letter to the community, RSU 3 Superintendent Charles D. Brown wrote that an individual associated with the school tested positive.
“There is a possibility that other staff or students came in contact with this individual and therefore may have been exposed to the virus,” Brown wrote. “We are informing you out of an abundance of caution.”
This is the first positive case associated with the school this year. At its eight schools, RSU 3 serves students from Brooks, Freedom, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Montville, Troy, Unity and Waldo.
Tuesday’s announcement marked the district’s second case of COVID-19. In October, a person associated with Mount View Elementary School tested positive.
There have been no changes to the school calendar.
“Fortunately, we have not had to make any changes to our calendar or schedules at this time,” Brown wrote in an email. “As always, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and make any adjustments when needed.”
NOKOMIS REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Regional School Unit 19 announced last week another positive case of COVID-19 had been detected in a person associated with Nokomis Regional High School.
In a letter posted to the district’s website Nov. 19, Superintendent Michael Hammer wrote there was a possibility other staff members or students had come into contact with the infected individual and might have been exposed to the virus.
This is the third case of COVID-19 reported in the district and the second reported at the high school.
RSU19 serves Corinna, Dixmont, Etna, Hartland, Newport, Palmyra, Plymouth and St. Albans.
WATERVILLE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Superintendent Eric Haley announced Tuesday a substitute worker at Waterville Senior High School had tested positive for COVID-19.
Haley said two employees at the high school were exposed to this person.
“Unfortunately, on this day before the Thanksgiving break I need to notify you that we have had a positive test for COVID-19 at the high school by a substitute worker, who had an exposure (within six feet of each other for 15 minutes or more) to two other employees,” Haley wrote.
“Everyone involved has been notified and is following proper guidelines to quarantine. They are quarantined for 14 days. As best as we can determine, by interviewing all involved, this is the extent of the exposure.”
