The Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro will hold its biannual Pregnancy Massage Clinic for women in all stages of pregnancy at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20, and again in August. Downeast School of Massage is on Moose Meadow Lane.

According to the release from the school, The Touch Research Institute of the University of Miami, Florida, has completed studies on massage and pregnancy. As reported by research scientist, Dr. Tiffany Field, at the AMTA Council of School meeting in Tucson, Arizona, “Regular massage for the pregnant woman reduces chances of premature birth, promotes circulation to mother and baby, and reduces labor time and labor discomfort!”

The free clinic offers supervised massage specific to the needs of pregnant women.

“Students are more than prepared to work with this special target group, said Nancy Dail, director of DSM, according to the release.  Pregnancy massage rounds out their program of more than 600 in-classroom hours. It enhances their skills and prepares them for their practice after graduation.”

All clinic clients are asked to complete a medical history questionnaire and are screened for contraindications.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 832-5531 or email downeastmassage@gmail.com between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
