AUGUSTA — A Pittston man is out on bail after he was charged with unlawful sexual contact after an 18-year-old came forward with a claim of an assault in 2011.
William Sevon, 45, of Pittston, was arrested on a charge of unlawful sexual contact, a class B felony, after a person came forward about an assault that allegedly took place seven years ago.
According to court documents, the complainant, whom the Kennebec Journal is not identifying because the person reported being a victim of a reported sexual assault, told the person’s parents in November 2018 that Sevon, a family friend, had commited the molestation in 2011 at his Pittston home.
The victim reported to police having been at the Sevon house in Pittston with the victim’s father to help fix something when Sevon reportedly followed the victim to the bathroom, opened the door and closed it behind him. Sevon reportedly exposed himself to the victim when they were using the bathroom and forcibly pulled the victim, who was facing away from Sevon, into his genitals when both of their pants were down. The victim yelled at him to let go, Sevon did, and the victim ran downstairs, according to court documents. The victim reported not having had sex with Sevon.
Sevon, who was described as intellectually disabled by two people in court documents, reportedly confirmed the victim’s recollection of events during a police interview in December 2018 but said it happened at the victim’s home in Augusta.
Court documents reference prior charges of unlawful sexual conduct on Sevon’s record. Sevon served a 30-day sentence and a year of probation after he was accused of molesting a 5-year-old when he was 18. He was convicted as a juvenile and pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual contact. He is not listed on the Maine Sex Offender Registry.
Sevon had his initial appearance in court on Monday but did not enter a plea. His next court date is scheduled for July 9.
Sevon posted $1,000 bail and was released Monday.
