The Maine Health Care Association recently honored the accomplishments of 35 people living in the state’s long term care facilities, including Joyce Bishop of Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan, at a ceremony held at the Augusta Civic Center, according to a news release from the Cedar Ridge Center.
This is the 17th annual celebration of the photography exhibit, titled “Remember ME,” which features the black-and-white photographs and biographies of citizens living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities statewide. Residents ranging in age from 55 to 98 are decorated war heroes, mothers and fathers, and community leaders such as doctors, journalists, teachers, and small business owners. Bishop was recognized for the positive impact she had in her community with the students of Madison High School while she was employed as a secretary to the guidance counselor.
The primary purpose of the project is to salute the people who have spent the best years of their lives supporting their families, building their communities and serving their state and country. The project also urges the public, including lawmakers, to remember the selfless contributions of our elderly and disabled citizens who now depend on others for their care and safety.
Jamie Doiron, recreation director at Cedar Ridge Center, said, “The facility couldn’t be more pleased to have the opportunity to recognize Joyce for her caring, giving nature. Joyce continues to make a positive impact on employees at the facility. She writes letters of encouragement and lends a mothering ear to the staff at the center,” according to the release.
