Parrish Brooks

A Gardiner man has pleaded not guilty Friday at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta to four charges stemming from a domestic altercation Wednesday in Gardiner.

Parrish A, Brooks, 28, was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault, criminal operating under the influence of alcohol, assault and disorderly conduct after police found him at the Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell.

According to the probable cause affidavit written by Gardiner Police Officer Daniel Ross, Brooks starting arguing with a woman and prevented her from getting away from him before leaving a home in Gardiner in her vehicle.

The woman, who was interviewed, had a red mark on her face consistent with a slap, and her son said he had seen Brooks slap his mother.

Ross wrote that Brooks appeared to be intoxicated at the bar, and said he had been drinking in the bar, and in Gardiner, but not since he drove back to Hallowell.

Ross detailed in the affidavit the field sobriety tests he administered, and said Brooks refused to take a breath test and became upset when he realized he was being investigated for operating under the influence of alcohol. Brooks refused to sign the form, Ross said, and attempted to take the form and crumple it up as well.

Brooks, who is not yet represented by an attorney, is being held in the Kennebec County jail on $1,000 cash bail.
